“For an SMB trying to get up and running with a Dynamics 365 sales or service app, less choice can be freeing, MindsUnited COO Stefan de Jonge told MSDynamicsWorld at the eXtreme365 Lisbon event. It can greatly increase the chance that a team will do the basics correctly – and consistently – before trying to operate with the full-scale Dynamics 365 solution.
JumpStart 365 is a wizard-based solution that systematizes and automates the implementation of Dynamics 365. The approach of starting the deployment with a structured tool allows the partner to guide users through the most basic decisions in their initial setup. It can also point them toward common added capabilities like integrations and vertical packages that they might not otherwise try.
“As a customer, when I work with a solution deployed via Jumpstart 365 for a few weeks with a vertical solution installed, I can try it as a trial and can then decide to buy it,” de Jonge explained. “What a customer doesn’t want is to ask the partner to build vertical functionality at a cost of [tens of thousands of Euros].”
Beyond customer success rates, the use of a wizard interface introduces other intriguing possibilities for a CRM deployment. For example, the wizard is not just an assistant to inexperienced CRM customers; it also helps non-CRM partners sell CRM. While some CRM veterans would undoubtedly recoil at the idea of letting inexperienced firms deploy Dynamics 365 apps, vendor like MindsUnited actively promote the idea that CRM can become an additional line of business alongside other core Microsoft competencies like Dynamics NAV, Office 365, SharePoint, or others. To put a point on it, MindsUnited promise partners who use their tools that they can “Learn Nothing! Hire No One! Invest Nothing!” while still selling Dynamics 365.
Another challenge for this ISV is exactly how they will adjust when D365 Business Edition sales and marketing apps are finally in market. As of eXtreme365 Lisbon, the exact limitations in critical areas like custom entity types and fields were not yet known, though Microsoft is reportedly running new focus groups with partners to hammer out these details.
Microsoft has advised that it will offer a simple wizard interface to get organizations started with the Business Edition apps, but no one expects these to be sufficient for every customer. Vertical add-ons and the easy setup of common integrations like a web store or accounting system will still be needed, and the easier the setup the better for everyone involved. MindsUnited is planning to offer such options.”

IT Channel Company and MindsUnited sign strategic agreement
